Home Management app for planning your day down to the very last detail.

I cannot wait to show you this app! If you are a parent that thrives on a schedule, you will love this app. It’s called Week Calendar. It has so many benefits that you just have to see it to believe it. Here is one day at a glance showing 15 hours. I like having an all-day section at the top. That’s how I schedule birthdays and anniversaries.

Here is an example of one week spread out, just 5 hours showing here. I also list bills due as all day events so they stay at the top of my calendar in green, that way I don’t miss them. Housework is brown because it’s dirty. I hate housework.

Every week day I have to leave my house at 3:00 to get the boys from school, so I set it as an a repeating event with a reminder. I also added that cute little car, because I can. So at 3:00 my phone chimes and it tells me to go get the kids. Love that!

If you zoom in with your fingers on the screen I can see in a little more detail the events of the day. Including working at the YMCA. I tapped on it and it shows the even including any additional details and makes the event color more vibrant to indicate that that is the one being viewed.

When I tap again on that event the indicator bubble disappears and the color goes back to normal.

To add an event you click the plus at the bottom right (shown above) and it takes you to this screen. You type in your event, location if that is needed, start and end time (shown in next picture), repeat, alert – my favorite feature, calendar and notes. The calendar allows you to sync this event with another calendar. I use multiple calendars in Yahoo, one for me and one for my blog, one for bills due etc. It allows you to add events to just one calendar, or all of them. LOVE that! It’s pure genius!

Super simple with a start time, end time and date spinner.

I like giving certain features their own colors. It’s easier to read the calendar with this type of distinction. I do blue for my boys, green for me (my favorite color), red for things that are time sensitive and I need to rush, orange for meals (because my kitchen is orange), you get the gist.

Lastly, event details. This allows you to share an event. Say the boys have a doctor appointment coming up, I can put it in my calendar, then share it with my mom and husband. So they all know what’s up! Yeah! Have a wireless printer? Print the event. Add to templates if this schedule will be something you live with for a while. That’s so helpful!

They seriously thought of everything! Here’s my first attempt of Home Management with a very detailed schedule. From there I moved on to creating a version of it in dayplanner form. I thought being able to check it off as I went would be helpful. I made it into 2 sections, morning schedule and afternoon schedule. That used to work for me when the boys were younger and we didn’t really have much on our schedule. Now I need something that I can tweak, add to, and quickly share with family. The Week Calendar is just what I needed. You know what else? It’s just $1.99!

What do you use? Would you find this useful? I really enjoy the reminders, if you don’t like it just shut it off! It took me about an hour to set it up, just as much time as it would to write it out and type it into a spreadsheet. I love that it’s so portable, it goes with me wherever I do. Great for my sanity!

How to get your kids to take their medicine! Homemade flavoring solution!

Have you seen the commercials for MiO? It’s a liquid flavor that you squirt into your water! Oh so yummy!
Right now he likes the Strawberry Watermelon flavor. I do one small-ish squirt in his 1.5 teaspoon of antibiotics.
Give it a good stir with a bamboo skewer.
Offer it up with some matching flavored water…
and we have success!
Just ignore his yellow face. He’s not jaundiced. He was painting his face to look like a tiger. He picked up a face painting kit at Toys R Us for $1.50! You can’t pass that up right?

Sanity Savers – Mom’s Plan It Planner

You may remember that last year I reviewed my Busy Body Book. I really loved my Busy Body Book and used it all year long! In the end I was ready for a change, so for 2011 I purchased a Mom’s Plan It Engagement Planner. A few years ago I had the matching calendar on my fridge and I LOVED it! I really enjoy the cute little stickers. It’s such a girl-thang. Now that I’ve had both I can say that there are things about both I enjoy. It’s so hard to pick a planner! Here’s what I love about this one:

  • Month pages in addition to weekly pages
  • Tear-off Menu Planning section/Grocery list on the back
  • Folder in the front (wish it had one in the back too)
  • Cute little stickers for different occasions
  • Pages for your children’s friends information
So as you can see this planner is perfect for busy mom’s that have something going on nearly every day. It’s a fun planner with the cute cover art and adorable stickers. It’s just makes me smile when I pull it out of my bag. Here are some inside pictures:
See all the cute stickers!!! Nice front pocket too.

Week at a glance with room for Menu Planning & a Grocery List.

Handy Restaurants & Baby Sitter Sheets.
Want to see it in action? Just watch the video below.

So far this one is a keeper! My Busy Body Book was great but a little big for most of my handbags. Smaller planners just don’t have enough room. Like Little Red Riding Hood says “this one is just right”. This product will make my Sanity Saver list because it helps me with so many things, birthdays, weekly schedules, children’s friends, restaurants, menu planning, grocery lists and more! Don’t ya just have to have it now?!?

Sanity Savers – My iPod

Apple iPod touch 32 GB (3rd Generation) NEWEST MODELCan I just say to begin with, that I was NOT given and iPod. I purchased one and now I really don’t remember what I did without it! I know these days most everyone has a smart phone. We are bombarded with how they are changing lives! I get that, I really do, but the price?!? Yikes! I know that I would really use a smart phone, but the cost of the plan increase to my existing plan is about $40.00/month. Although I know I would use it, I just don’t feel right about paying $40.00 a month for facebook, because honestly, that is one of the things I would primarily use it for. So why pay for facebook when I get it at home for free? (Well, that and email and twitter. Gotta have those!)

So my alternative? An iPod.

I have wi-fi in my home, so as long as I’m near a wi-fi connection I’m able to get online. This may be inconvenient for some people, but it saves me money and suits my needs just fine. The one time fee of purchasing my iPod would have only lasted me the equivalent of 5 months of an upgraded smart phone cellular plan. Now that I’ve sold you, let me tell you why it helps with my peace of mind.

I’m breastfeeding. Sometimes a nursing session lasts mere minutes and sometimes it lasts an hour. I enjoy a good TV show like the rest of you, but I feel like there are other things I could be doing instead of watching TV when I’m nursing. How about an ebook on the iPod Kindle? I LOVE to multi-task and being able to check and respond to emails, while nursing my baby and catching up on some DVR really puts me at ease. I no longer feel that I have to steal moments away from my kids to check my email, facebook page, update my blog or tweet. Granted, none of these things can really even compare to time with my children, but I have a life too! It may involve a lot of cyber chat and online communities, but these women I’ve met online are part of my support system. They support me and my efforts as a breastfeeding, cloth diapering, attached parent, co-sleeping, blogging mom. That’s important to me. It is probably important to you too!

So now I don’t really go anywhere without my iPod. I’m not always online with it, but that’s OK. I read while I’m waiting, the kids can play games when I need to use it to diffuse a situation, it plays my music when I need to kick back. It’s just what I need.

Does your phone do that for you? Am I missing out or would you agree with me that the iPod is the frugal mom’s version of a smart phone? Chime in! Leave me a comment!!!

Sanity Savers – Cozi

{Sanity Savers are products, websites, tips and tricks that make my life easier}
Cozi is a family planner, just what a busy mom needs. Just look at all the features: Shared Calendar, Shopping Lists, To Do Lists, Reminders & Messages, Family Journal with Sharing, Mobile Phone Access, and a Photo Collage Screensaver!
I was turned on to Cozi a few years ago and didn’t do much with it because I honestly didn’t have much planned on the calendar. Now that my 2 older boys are in soccer and cub scouts I find my calendar filling up quickly. I like that the calendar is shared between family members. That way when I have to take a kiddo to the Dr. it will remind me of my appointment as well as send the notification to my hubby and mom. So if they were going to call me and I didn’t answer they would have been worried, but if they receive the notifications they know where I’m at and what I’m up to!
This feature will work on smart phones and non-smart phones. I have a regular phone (no internet) and I’m still able to use this feature. If you have Alltel as your cellular provider it appears that it won’t work for you when you sign up. All you have to do is send Cozi and message telling them you have Alltel and they will set up phone mapping (?) for you. They have cleverly figured out a way to get around the fact that Alltel doesn’t send text messages to email address. So it will work for everyone!

The shopping lists are another great feature! If you forget your list and you don’t have a smart phone you can call Cozi from your cell phone and it will read your list to you or send it to you via text message. How cool is that?!? I don’t know of another program out there that has truly thought of it all.
Also each family member is color coded. This helps keep everyone straight. You can customize this to your liking too!
I’ve been using Cozi now for a few months religiously. I’ve told my friends and family about it too!
Disclaimer: I was not paid or compensated in any way from Cozi. It’s just a great site that I use personally because it helps to simplify my life and I want to share my Sanity Savers with all of you!
