LOVE that you can type in your zip code and it will tell you all about frost occurences, when to plant what, stuff about perinnials and annuals that I’m still learning, and more! We used raised beds, but it will also accomodate row planting and square foot gardening!

The program is so easy to use, you just click on the plant you want and click it again to drop it in it’s location. They have TONS of plants to choose from too! Watch the quick start video below:

My little Garden Gnome

Doesn’t he looks so cute out there in the garden? I know it’s a little overgrown and I need to trim it back, but it’s like a jungle to him. He loves it!

Mother’s Day Garden

For Mother’s Day this year my hubby surprised me with plans to have a garden at home! We’ve discussed this for years but never agreed on where to place it. We have deer that live in the woods behind our house and that was also a deterrent. I’d hate to plant all those seeds just for the garden to become deer food. We finally decided on a location on the side of the house near the water hose and it would get the morning and noon-time sun. It seems ideal, at least to me, but hey, what do I know? I’ve killed a cactus!

While I got to work building a planter box Lou had seen a great frame (leftover parts from a previous property) next door at my parent’s house that would serve as a great divided planter box, similar to what you would see in gardening by the foot. My friend Hannah explained the concept to me and we’ve modified it to fit our needs.

Now mind you, the location that I had decided on had recently been destroyed when we had a new septic system put in. So the work involved in this gift was HUGE! Lou had a ton of land to level, and that was no small feat. It was a mess! I had Cutler on my back in the Beco Butterfly II Carrier and he slept for quite a while back there. He even slept while I used the drill and the saw! He’s used to the noise by now, but I can’t believe he slept through all that! The boys helped too! Cohen sat on boards for me to keep them in place while Camden helped me hold boards together while I drilled the screws in. All it all it truly was a family affair!

Pawpaw came home from Lowe’s with some soil and helped up place the seeds in the appropriate places. I wouldn’t have had a clue, but he’s done this gardening stuff before. So here’s how it looks now

All together we’ve got 4 pretty large planter boxes. I’m so excited!!! I hope the boys really enjoy growing the food and later eating all the healthy veggies we hope grow. I imagine they will be out there daily looking for things to sprout. I know I will!
