The kids were fascinated when they watched it. Cutler already likes dinosaurs so this was not a difficult sell!

Here’s a short video of the kids and their reactions:

Sorry for the crappy lighting. I’m learning a new video editing program and clearly haven’t mastered it yet.

Interact on Facebook and on Twitter for honest discussion with people just like you that have made the investment!

Pound Puppies isn’t just for girls, my boys loved it too!

Back in February I shared with you that the Pound Puppies were releasing a DVD in March. Well, we received one for review! I wasn’t quite sure how my boys would like it because I wondered if they would think of it as “girly”. Turns out they didn’t. The 2.5 and 6 year old sat still and watched the entire thing!

Amazon has it for just $11.99, it was $12.99 and it’s currently in stock! This would make a great Easter gift!

Cutler was really into checking out the case while he was watching the show.

I said “Cutler, look at mama.” This is what I got. I don’t know what’s on his cheek!

He held onto the case for the whole thing! Second time we watched it he actually put it down.

It was pretty cute. It kept them both entertained. They enjoyed watching the dogs getting into happy homes.

So overall we’d recommend it to boys and girls alike! They all love puppies! Want to see it in action? Watch the trailer:

Thanks Dre from Click Communications for allowing me to review it!

New DVD Gets Kids Hooked on Eating Fruits and Vegetables

“Because children learn best from other children.”

Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is the debut DVD in a series designed to encourage healthy habits in young children. This series is for children aged six months to 5 years.

Divided into twelve chapters of 6-8 minutes each focusing on a different fruit or vegetable:

bell pepper
bananas
oranges
carrots
strawberries
avocado
raspberries
tomatoes
apples
broccoli
cucumber
blueberries

The genesis for the project came when Cai Dixon noticed her young daughter was more willing to try new fruits and vegetables when she saw another child eating them. Bella liked to copy. Dixon wondered if the experience had to be live, or if a video of children eating fruits and vegetables would also work? “It did, and not just with Bella,” recalls Dixon. And so a concept was born: Find children who LOVE to eat fruits and veggies, film them eating them – and make the video available to parents. It’s that simple. Says Dixon, “I never would have expected my child to eat raw broccoli – but she demanded it as soon as she saw another child eating it on TV. Now it is one of her favorite vegetables.”

Director Malona Badelt was volunteering at an orphanage in Ghana when she was asked to direct Copy-Kids. She literally got off the plane in LA and drove to a test shoot that same day. She fell in love with the project and was able to coax the most amazing performances out of each cast member. It’s unscripted and quirky, with children behaving authentically, which gives it surprise and comedy. “I would never have got such amazing performances if the video had been scripted,” says Badelt. “Each child brought his or her own piece of magic to the project.”

For parents, the DVD also features an interview with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, author of Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow. He talks about childhood overweight and obesity, suggests ways that parents can get children to make healthier food choices, and explains why Copy-Kids is such a powerful idea, noting “That’s just the way kids are, they love to copy other kids.”

Selected as one of the 10 Best Audio/Visuals for 2011 by Stevanne Auerbach, PhD./ Dr. Toy. It’s a unique tool for parents who want to encourage healthy eating in their children.

This innovative DVD is engaging & enchanting – kids want to play it over and over as they learn to love these healthy foods. Dixon adds, “Just be sure you have these foods at home – because your kids are going to want to eat what the Copy-Kids are eating.”

My take?

He already ate bananas and apples with no problem. He’s tried strawberries and blueberries and he didn’t dislike them, but he didn’t really take to them either. Same thing with oranges. He doesn’t love them. I think because they make him all sticky. Cutler tried Red Pepper! He tried the baby carrots, no go on the Avocado, but I’m not giving up. And Tomatoes? They must be just too juicy. It’s the same thing with grapes, he’s just not a fan. I don’t think he would have tried half the things he did without the video though. It’s really genius!

Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life DVD Review

I was excited to sit down and watch this with the kids but they had friends over and wouldn’t sit still. So tonight my hubby and I sat down to watch Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life. It’s based on the book. You can buy Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life on Amazonfor just $6.99. If you’d prefer the movie (like I do!) you can buy it on Amazon for $12.99.

It started out a bit slow. The children in the film weren’t great actors, but it still made the point. The adults? Mira Sorvino is a great quirky librarian mother raising her son on her own. She is heart warming and genuine. Joe Pantoliano was an eccentric man doing good deeds through the children.

The movie had a great message, and the end? It totally all came together! It was a great family friendly movie that leaves you feeling like “wow, I get it”. So bottom line? Slow, but worth the wait. Great ending that really makes you think. You’ll be glad you watched it!

Thanks Team Mom for sending me the DVD!!!

The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittle DVD Review

We received the DVD of The Voyages of Young Doctor Dolittleto review. The boys are watching it right now.
From what I hear the characters sound cute. The animation is fun, colorful, vibrant and very kid friendly. My 5 year old and 8 year old weren’t all into it, but my 2 year old really seemed to enjoy it.
The movie has an underlying message that teaches responsibility and making good choices. Even though this DVD was aimed towards younger children, my 5 and 8 year old sat through the whole thing!
You can buy it from Amazon for just $12.99 or rent it for 7 days with Amazon Instant Video for just $1.99! I didn’t even realize you could do that! So check it out. Your kids will thank you.
*Disclosure – DVD was provided to me for review. All opinions are my own.

{Giveaway Alert} Prima Princessa presents the Nutcracker DVD Review

As you all know, I have 3 boys. They were not interested in the least to watch a Princess Ballerina-type movie. However, I have a friend that has 5 children, and 4 of them are girls! She was happy to review it on my behalf. Here’s a short 31 second video to tell you a bit about the DVD.

Let me first start off by saying that this isn’t a sit-down-on-the-couch-with-a-bowl-full-of-popcorn-movie. This is a get-off-the-couch-and-dance-type-of-movie. Here’s a brief description of what I’m talking about:
The cartoon fairy ballerina Prima Princessa takes a group of pre-school children on a magical Christmas journey to see a live performance of “The Nutcracker” performed by England’s world famous Birmingham Royal Ballet in this Parents Choice Award-winning program. Prima Princessa delightfully narrates the story so children can understand the plot. Between acts the kids get up and dance, learning simple ballet steps from students at SAB, official academy of the New York City Ballet. Additional fun including a Holiday party with cookie and gingerbread house decorating, Christmas crafting, and Holiday Freeze Dancing!

The movie is geared towards ages 3-6. My friend’s children are 2.5 (twins), 5, and 7 and they didn’t really participate. She didn’t feel that they were ready for this type of movie. She felt that maybe 8 years old and older would really learn and benefit from this type of movie.

Prima Princesssa, preschool gamesOn the website Prima Princessa you can print out great coloring pages. Ever wonder what all the ballerina terms mean? You can find a Ballet terms dictionary by clicking here.  You can purchase the Prima Princessa Presents the Nutcracker DVD from Amazon for just $6.99! They also created Prima Princessa: Swan Lake and Prima Princessa Presents Sleeping Beauty. For just $6.99 each you can afford to get all 3 for the little girl in your life for Christmas!
